From Hans Rosenberger: “Storia sui binari – Locomotive E.666 CSD” (iTreni, n. 300, gennaio 2008).

Due to lack of locos for the electrified railway lines (3 kV=) around Warszawa, the German military administration in the period from Oct. 1943 to the beginning of 1944 commandeered 5 locos from Italy, namely FS Class 646 (Breda 1931) nos. 016, 017, 019, 021 and 024 from the Railway Directorate of Udine. As for no. 015, the same destiny was planned, but the loco never reached Poland due to bombardment damages, and thus remained in Salzburg, from where it returned to Italy in 1951.

The 5 locos served for some time around Warszawa, but the advance of the Red Army forced RBD Breslau to remove the locos, and track of them is thereafter lost.

After the War FS 626.016 was found in Bavaria (Fishbach, Rosenheim – Kufstein), and was in Oct. 1945 returned to Italy.

The remaining 4 locos were found in Czechoslovakia and commissioned by the Red Army, and finally in 1951 they were handed over to the CSD.

A number of railway lines around Prag were electrified (1,5 kV=) from 1928 on, particularly to eliminate the smoke problems at the tunnel close to the Prag main terminal and in the terminal itself. Also the line Prag – Pilsen was to be electrified likewise, but was delayed due to the economical crisis and the War. The project was not finished until the beginning of the sixties.

A great need for electric traction led the CSD to renovate and convert 3 of the Italians to 1,5 kV=, and thus use them around Prague from 1953 on. The fourth loco (019) was used for spare parts. In this way the CSD became 3 “new” locomotives, painted in dark green with a red star on the sides.

With a lasting effect of 1.920 kW the locos were the strongest in CSD stock, and they were mainly used in heavy goods traffic, the average being (only) 180 km per day.

At the end of the forties, it was decided to commence electrification, but in 3 kV=, which also was introduced in the Prag area. The 1,5 kV lines here were switched to 3 kV= on spring 1962, and the old 1,5 kV engines were moved to the 1,5 kV lines Rybník - Lipno and Tábor - Bechyne; and thereafter scrapped, since it was not found profitable to re-convert them to 3 kV=. By end of 1966 none of the locos longer exists.
